TORCS, the "The Open Racing Car Simulator", is a highly portable multi platform car racing simulation. It is used as ordinary car racing game, as AI racing game and as research platform. It runs on Linux and Windows. The source code of TORCS is licensed under the GPL ("Open Source"). You find more information about the project here: "The official TORCS site".

The current series of TORCS robots provided here is based on the simplix, a robot used to attend the TORCS Endurance World Championship 2008. The name simplix is build of "Simply mixed best Practice" and was the motto while development. To get a competitive robot I combined genes of my delphin (a robot programmed completly in Delphi), it's successor modbot (also written in Delphi) and Tim Foden's fantastic robot mouse_2006.

The delphin was my first TORCS robot and I learned the basics from Bernhard Wymann's "Robot Tutorial". With it I was able to beat Bernhard's bt robot on most tracks. To prepare my first participation on the championships I programmed the modbot (in Delphi) and a driving-only engine in C++, the wdbee_2007. The modbot was made to beat the berniws. It was a complete robot but written in Delphi and to race in the championships I needed a C version of it. To save time I used the Delphi robot for the calculation of the racingline, saved it to a file and the wdbee only read it and raced. After Tim Foden's withdrawal the wdbee got the third rank in the TORCS Endurance World Championship 2007.

In 2008 three teams based on the simplix robot joined the Championship. Two teams only raced half of the season, the third was fighting for the whole season. Read more about the Champion 2008.

In the last season raced (2009) again three teams use a simplx based robot. John Isham's Team JeDI and the PoliMi Racing Team Reloaded, a Team of the Politecnico di Milano supervised by Daniele Loiacono, are using the simplix for racers. My team wdbee introduced a newer version called simplix V2.

And the simplix did it again, Champion 2009! In the years 2010 and 2011 there was no championship, but now 2012 we start a new season! Details see at the TORCS Racing Board
